Pro-Life Louisiana gubernatorial candidate Jeff Landry won his election Saturday night, flipping the Democrat-led state to Republican.

Washington, DCPro-Life Louisiana gubernatorial candidate Jeff Landry won his election Saturday night, flipping the Democrat-led state to Republican. Landry, the state’s Attorney Genral, replaces Democratic Gov. John Bel Edwards, who could not seek re-election due to term limits.

Landry defeated pro-abortion Secretary of Transportation Shawn Wilson (D).

This is the first time Louisiana has had a Republican governor in 8 years.

“Today’s election says that our state is united,” Landry said in his victory speech. “It’s a wake up call and it’s a message that everyone should hear loud and clear, that we the people in this state are going to expect more out of our government from here on out.”

By winning more than half the votes, Landry avoided a runoff. Republicans were eager to regain control in a state that voted for Trump in the 2020 presidential election by nearly 20 points.
