Any way you slice the pie, electing a tested and proven compromiser for Speaker of the House is going to yield only more of the ugly status quo. Kevin McCarthy’s recently displayed I’ll-do-anything-for-me concessions are anything but an encouraging sign for a greater America. For decades now, politicians have been compromising on everything from heavy taxation to weaponized medicine, and look where it’s gotten us.
Now we catch a generous glimpse of what John Adams meant when he told us the Constitution was made for a moral and religious (i.e., Christian) nation. The majority of influential politicians are self-seeking careerists whose only agenda is to bolster their pride, power, and pay. That doesn’t bode well for the denizen constituency. Somehow, we need to change the regime. The problem is, without honest elections, we are left with hope and a prayer that the corrupt regime will do the right thing and end its reign. It isn’t going to happen. The portrait being painted is genuinely one of gloom. …
