I was out with friends in Washington, DC, when the news came out in June of 2022.

I saw the decision of the nation’s highest court on the little chyron at the bottom of the TV behind the bar. There was no mistaking the significance of that historic moment. My friends and I let out a roar of applause. A curse was lifted. A darkness fled. We celebrated like a war had ended.
