Patron Saint of Benedictine Nuns

St. Scholastica was the twin sister of St. Benedict of Nursia and the foundress of the women’s branch of Benedictine monasticism. Each year, she and her brother would meet near his abbey in Monte Cassino to pray and discuss faith, issues of the day, and Scripture. One year, as her brother prepared to leave, she prayed to God and asked that her brother would stay. Suddenly, a storm broke out, preventing Benedict’s departure. The two stayed up all night talking. Three days later, Scholastica passed away. “I asked a favor of you and you refused. I asked it of God and he granted it.” -St. Scholastica to her brother St. Benedict
