Bishop Bernard Fellay of the Priestly Fraternity of St Pius X recently conducted an interview with Kenya’s Immaculata TV.

Regarding Cardinal Victor (Tucho) Fernández and his recent document on the Marian titles Co-Redemptrix and Mediatrix of all graces, Bishop Fellay called it “pitiful.”

“It is an insult to God,” he said.

“God wants his creatures to collaborate and cooperate in his work.”

He explained that God wanted the Blessed Virgin Mary to fulfil her unique role, and that many popes had used the title ‘Mediatrix’ and at times ‘Co-Redemptrix’, or similar formulations.

Monsignor Fellay recalled that, prior to Vatican II, theologians were close to defining a Marian dogma of Mary as Mediatrix of all graces.

He believes the motive behind Tucho’s document is ecumenical accommodation: “There is a Protestant spirit in the Church.”
