Texas AG: We Lost Case But Put Abortionists on Trial

Despite losing a court battle over a new abortion law, the Texas attorney general says the legal fight exposed abortion giant Planned Parenthood.

Attorney General Ken Paxton tells OneNewsNow he predicts an eventual win in the 5^th Circuit Court of Appeals after U.S. District Judge Lee Yeakel blocked the new law in a Nov. 22 ruling in Austin.

Gov. Greg Abbott signed the law in June that bans a second-trimester abortion procedure known as dilation and evacuation.

Pro-abortion groups sued Texas over the new law and a trial was held this fall.

“We feel like what the legislature did is very similar to what happened at the federal level banning partial-birth abortions,” Paxton says of the new law. “And so we feel very confident that on appeal, we’ll be successful.”

A post-ruling story by The Washington Post recalls that Texas has fought for – and lost – several pro-life laws in recent years, including an abortion clinic law that was “gutted” by a U.S. Supreme Court ruling in 2016.

Regarding the new law, federal courts have struck down similar laws in four states to date, the Post story also reported.

Even though the federal judge ruled against the state, says Paxton, the five-day trial was “historic” because it literally put Planned Parenthood on trial.

The trial’s eyewitnesses included abortionists who described how to cause “fetal demise,” including one of two injections or by cutting the umbilical cord and letting the fetus bleed out, The Dallas Observer reported at the trial.

“By questioning and cross-examining them,” he says, “we’re able to get to the truth and actually have them explain the gruesome nature of their practice, and how they literally rip these babies apart without ever any thought for how that affects the baby.”
