By John Zmirak, The Stream - You might not have heard about it, but the Trump administration recently issued an historic policy paper on U.S. strategy toward the world, but especially a European Union where most of the countries are technically our allies, allegedly pledged to the same values. On paper, that is. But with Britain arresting dozens of citizens each day for social media posts, when they complain about the mass importation of Third World “refugees” at public expense, and France and Germany trying to outlaw opposition parties, while Muslim mobs shut down Christmas markets and the EU threatens massive fines if Elon Musk won’t censor X … you really have to wonder. Are we on the same page as Europe?

By Donald Jacob Uitvlugt, Catholic World Report - (Dec. 10th) marks an important Marian feast arising from the devotional life of the Church and especially of the lay faithful, the feast of Our Lady of Loreto. Traditional accounts report that, on December 10, 1394, the small house in which the Virgin Mary had lived was transported by angels to the small town of Loreto (in central Italy, not too far from the Adriatic)... Much ink has been spilled, especially in modern times, over whether the stone structure housed in the Basilica della Santa Casa is or is not the structure in which the Annunciation occurred. One is not required to believe that the walls within the basilica were transported by angels, or indeed was the house of the Annunciation at all ....

The deeper wound is that most Christian leaders have offered them nothing stronger or more hopeful to cling to. Too many churches adopt a soft managerial tone instead of demonstrating genuine pastoral courage. Too many pastors behave like administrators when the moment demands fathers. These young men do not need to be analyzed, reprimanded, or told they are a problem. They need direction. They need presence. They need someone willing to stand in the gap.
