But Secretary of War Pete Hegseth’s bloodthirsty prayer, Trump’s threat to end Iranian civilization, these were all things well deserving of condemnation by those whose shoulders bear the burden of apostolic succession... And that is the Catholic Church’s burden. It is the one institution in our society that transcends both left and right. It must resist all efforts to be coopted by either side of the political fence. And continue to call on her children, who labor on each side, to purify and elevate the side we are on. ...

Down here on Earth, the war in Iran has commanded our attention. Yet up in the sky, something uplifting and even more commanding has unfolded right before us. The breathtaking images of the moon and the Earth, and the Artemis crew’s faith-centered comments, have drawn our gaze heavenward in contemplation of God’s glory and the goodness of the universe he has created for us.

Provisional figures released this week by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show 3,606,400 babies were born in 2025, a 1% decrease from 3,628,934 births in 2024. The general fertility rate fell 1% to 53.1 births per 1,000 women and girls ages 15-44, continuing a decline that began in 2007... The figures come more than three years after the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision returned abortion policy to the states. Pro-life advocates continue to push for stronger protections for unborn children as the nation grapples with falling fertility rates.
