By Calvin Freiburger, LifeSiteNews - The latest cinematic iteration of Superman hit theaters last week, and because we live in an era where a superhero can’t just be a superhero anymore, it was accompanied by all-too-familiar chatter about how woke it would be... the film’s director, James Gunn, threw fuel on the fire when he said in a pre-release interview, “Yes, it’s about politics,” and touted it as an “immigrant that came from other places and populated the country, but for me it is mostly a story that says basic human kindness is a value and is something we have lost.”

Kevin Drew, Catholic Exchange - Christ’s parables were made-up stories, but they weren’t “tall tales.” The parable of the Good Samaritan, about a man beaten up and robbed on the road from Jerusalem to Jericho was believable because things like that happened all the time. Bandits populated the Jericho Road... Jerusalem sits way up high on a mountain, 2600 feet above sea level. Jericho, only fifteen miles to the east, is the lowest inhabited city on earth. It is around 800 feet below sea level. That’s a huge drop within a short distance.

Pope credit for courage: for taking on a topic that few preachers want to touch. (Give him credit, too for a terrific book title.) While critics of the Catholic Church—and of Christianity in general—complain about hellfire-and-brimstone sermons, the truth is that most preachers shy away from the topic of hell, preferring to focus on more pleasant aspects of the faith.
