Immigration, Politicians, and the Sounds of Silence, by Thaddeus G. McCotter

By Thaddeus G. McCotter, Chronicles - Let’s look at illegal immigration and a hypothetical Catholic Democrat politician whom we shall call “Joe.”.. Joe spends all his time in the media and the marbled corridors of power denouncing the Trump administration’s “inhumane” treatment of “migrants.” His use of the term “migrants” when he is speaking of “illegal immigrants” further blurs the line between lawful and illegal entrants into America. Buckley at 100: Catholicism, Communism, and Conservatism, by Clark S. Judge

By Clark S. Judge, The American Spectator - (Bill Buckley) introduced a Catholic perspective into the American discourse at the same moment that the old Protestant establishment’s confidence in the American experiment and America’s place in the world was wavering.  And through that Catholic sensibility, he brought clarity to the great issues of his time... By Phil Lawler, Complicit Clergy, (Catholic Culture) - Let’s look at the bishops’ statement on US immigration policy from a completely different angle... Forget the arguments for and against unrestricted immigration, for and against the Trump administration’s crackdown. Instead ask this question: Why are the bishops making any statement at all?.. We can all agree, regardless of our political perspectives, that the immigration problem in the US today is severe. We may disagree about the causes of that problem and about the appropriate remedies. Those are political issues, best resolved in political debates—which are not the bishops’ primary concern.
