By Dr. Jeff Mirus, Catholic Culture - In a bizarre news story out of Belgium, a court has ruled that two Catholic bishops must pay financial damages to a woman who was denied a place in a training program for deacons. The logic of the ruling was that the Church’s teaching that only men can be ordained to the diaconate applies logically only to their ordination, not to admission to a training program which women might find to be otherwise useful.

We may lose a certain beauty of liturgical form, and that would be a shame. But it need not restrict our love for God, nor our heartfelt worship... Liturgical beauty is a gift, but we must be clear that even the most splendid liturgy is only a means, not an end. The end is union with God, and as hard as it is, we must continue to worship him in spirit and in truth.
