He urges us to dive in and recklessly indulge our fallen passions. When that results in the inevitable dire consequences, he goads us to the opposite error and demands we just suppress them. Sooner or later, that fails, and he nimbly reminds us that wallowing is still an option. And round and round we go.

The taxpayer-funding commitments from New York, California, Oregon, Washington, Illinois, Massachusetts and Hawaii come in response to a one-year moratorium on Medicaid reimbursements for nonprofits that kill babies in abortions, enacted as part of Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” signed in July.
