By Jeremy Frankel, NewsMax - Following Pope Francis' announcement Saturday that Bishop Joseph Strickland would be removed from his duties in the diocese of Tyler, Texas, Bishop Athanasius Schneider, auxiliary bishop of Saint Mary in Astana, Kazakhstan, released a statement accusing the Vatican of taking part in a "purge" of traditionalists... "The deposition of Bishop Joseph E. Strickland signifies a black day for the Catholic Church of our day," Schneider wrote, calling it a "blatant injustice" toward a bishop who preached and defended the Catholic faith.

However the Vatican press office, no doubt hoping to ward off speculation about the Pope’s medical condition, rushed out the explanation that the problem was only “a bit of a cold” (however) the Pontiff kept all the other appointments on his Monday schedule... the next day’s offerings from the Vatican... included photos of the smiling Pope embracing children from 84 nations at a “Children Meet the Pope” gathering... Now I ask you: If you are suffering from a cold, should you be hugging little children?

During the time of Henry VIII, most English bishops rallied around the King as his Tier Two cheerleaders. Only Bishop John Fisher objected. He dropped to Tier Three and then to Tier Four before he lost his head... The Four Tiers of the contemporary Church help us understand our times. The Tier One of the Vatican has become increasingly homosexual-friendly but jealously guards the perquisites of power. Most of the bishops (and priests) are Tier Two. They do their best to “play well in the sandbox” and dutifully respond to Vatican disciplinary and synodal directives.
