Fr. Raymond J. de Souza: Conclave Haste?

By Fr. Raymond J. de Souza, The Catholic Thing - Conclave 2025 was not, by historical standards, exceptionally short. But it was short. It was the third straight Conclave to conclude on its first full day. Is that a cause for concern?... No one really knows except those who were in the Sistine Chapel. They are sworn to secrecy. At the outset, I want to clarify a few points. First, the document on which I shall reflect is a draft text; second, Bishop Martin presented it to a subcommittee of the Presbyteral Council for their comments; third, this text was subsequently leaked to the public.

Saint of the Day for June 3: Saint Charles Lwanga and Companions (d. between November 15, 1885 – January 27, 1887)

By Franciscan Media, June 3 - One of 22 Ugandan martyrs, Charles Lwanga is the patron of youth and Catholic action in most of tropical Africa. He protected his fellow pages, aged 13 to 30, from the sexual demands of the Bagandan ruler, Mwanga, and encouraged and instructed them in the Catholic faith during their imprisonment for refusing the ruler’s demands... Charles first learned of Christ’s teachings from two retainers in the court of Chief Mawulugungu. While a catechumen, he entered the royal household as assistant to Joseph Mukaso, head of the court pages. ...
