Mario Alexis Portella, Crisis Magazine - On May 14, in his “Address to Participants in the Jubilee of Oriental Churches,” Pope Leo XIV not only praised “the unique spiritual and sapiential traditions that they preserve, and for all that they have to say to us about the Christian life, synodality, and the liturgy,” he also highlighted how the Oriental Churches have “a unique and privileged role as the original setting where the Church was born.”

By Dr. Jeff Mirus, Catholic Culture - It is not necessary to itemize the dozen or more messages to various groups in any given month by which popes encourage various organizations in their particular missions. It will be some time before we can discern the basic Christian themes of this new pontificate. But we can state without fear that unless these basic themes emphasize an ever deepening conversion to Christ in response to the proclamation of the Gospel, the papacy will continue its slide into irrelevance.

They serve, they sacrifice, they bend over backward to please everyone around them, especially their wives. But it doesn’t lead to the life they expected... Instead of respect, they get resentment. Instead of admiration, they get indifference. They’re overlooked, not honored. Their efforts go unnoticed, their sacrifices unappreciated.

By Fr. Paul D. Scalia, The Catholic Thing - “It is the decision of the Holy Spirit and of us…” This line from today’s first reading (Acts 15:1-2, 22-29) sounds a little odd. As if the decision of the Holy Spirit wasn’t enough, the Apostles have to add “and of us.” It calls to mind the story of the priest who pompously began his sermon, “Our Lord once said – and I think He’s right…” Or, still curiouser, it can sound as though the Holy Spirit and the Apostles had finally come to some agreement. Still, despite its odd sound, the phrase is extraordinarily important – and a harbinger of peace.
