By Franciscan Media - Little is known about the life of Januarius. He is believed to have been martyred in the Emperor Diocletian’s persecution of 305. Legend has it that Januarius and his companions were thrown to the bears in the amphitheater of Pozzuoli, but the animals failed to attack them. They were then beheaded, and Januarius’ blood ultimately brought to Naples.

Writing to Catharine Sawbridge Macaulay in 1790, George Washington reflected on the meaning of the new Constitution: “The establishment of our new Government seemed to be the last great experiment, for promoting human happiness, by reasonable compact, in civil Society” (emphasis added)... Note he said America was not just an experiment but the last great one. If that was his conclusion after watching our ally France’s Reign of Terror in the name of “liberté, éqalité and fraternité,” how much more would he be convinced today to watch us trade American founding principles for those same Marxist values, now called “diversity, equity, and inclusion.” ...

The question is as old as Christianity itself... Is it reasonable to believe that a man named Jesus is the Son of God who, fully divine himself and without forsaking his divinity, was born of a Virgin, died, rose and ascended into heaven? Is it reasonable to believe that the one God, undivided, is three persons — Father, Son and Holy Spirit?
