Jay Jones fantasized in conversations with a former colleague about assassinating then-state House Speaker Todd Gilbert, a Republican, and “wished” death upon Gilbert’s children, a new report revealed Friday... The news comes after Republican state House Del. Kim Taylor, who is running for reelection in Virginia, said she received a death threat last week after Virginia Democrat gubernatorial candidate Abigail Spanberger told her supporters to “let your rage fuel you.”... That kind of rhetoric has long been deployed by the assassination left to pre-justify and inspire violence against their political opponents.

Winsome Earle-Sears, trending upward and closing the gap with her opponent, Democrat Abigail Spanberger... The poll conducted by A2 Insights found Earle-Sears trailing Spanberger, a former three-term member of Congress, by 3.1 points—marking the closest margin Virginians have seen in the race to succeed term-limited Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin.

On the same day that news broke of an Islamist attack on a Catholic Parish in the Congo that left 64 dead and many wounded, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops published a 15-page booklet, “Islamophobia: A Guide for U.S. Catholics on Anti-Muslim Bigotry.”... The purpose of the booklet is to warn Catholics about “the rising tide of anti-Muslim sentiment.” I’m not aware of any “rising tide” of anti-Muslim bigotry in the U.S., but I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a rising tide of anti-Muslim sentiment in Africa — where the burning of churches and the slaughter of Christians is an everyday affair.
