The Politics of the Shutdown, Obamacare, Crime and Deportations, by Larry Elder

By Larry Elder, Chronicles - One more time: There is no such thing as free lunch. Government has no money. It acquires the money used to pay for things one of three ways: taxing, borrowing or printing... Democrat senators, with three exceptions, voted against keeping the federal government fully running because they want to add back spending reduced under the so-called Big Beautiful Bill; they want to spend even more; and they want to extend the expiring Obamacare subsidies.

Our Colleges Are Hotbeds of Moral Cowardice, by Lawrence Reed

By Lawrence Reed, The Stream - Two weeks since the murder of Charlie Kirk, the tragedy is still sinking in. I knew Charlie Kirk. In 2015, when he was just 21, he wrote, “Mr. Reed’s lecture on Adam Smith and The Wealth of Nations is still one of my favorite to date. It really changed the way I look at the free market and economics.” He reserved the highest praise for the work of the Foundation for Economic Education, the organization I have been closely associated with for half a century. He encouraged students to attend FEE programs, and I spoke at several of Charlie’s Turning Point conferences and chapter events.

When German Catholics Fought Back, by Casey Chalk

By Casey Chalk, The Catholic Thing - There was a time when German Catholics fought for the faith. One hundred and fifty years ago, half the bishops of Prussia were imprisoned, as were hundreds of parish priests, leaving more than a thousand parishes orphaned. All of them had refused to cooperate with various Prussian laws, often called “May Laws,” intended to suffocate the independence of the Catholic Church in favor of an “ecumenical” brand of Protestantism. German lay Catholics responded by providing hiding places for clergy, paying fines clergymen incurred from the state, and purchasing bishops’ furniture at auction. And they were just getting started.

Evil Is Not the Opposite of Good, It Is the Opposite of Truth, By D.P. Curtin

By D.P. Curtin, Catholic Exchange - In this light, moral failure is not disobedience to a moral precept, but participation in a lie. Evil thrives only to the extent that it can persuade us to confuse shadows for light. To resist it, then, is to embrace truth fully, not only in our speech but in our very being, cleaving to reality as God has made it. Goodness and truth are naturally inseparable forces. Evil, when unmasked, is nothing more than the denial of both.
