Search and rescue efforts are ongoing after an Army Blackhawk helicopter crashed into an American Airlines passenger plane near Reagan National Airport in Washington, DC, last night. The plane was coming from Wichita, Kansas, and was just seconds from landing. The prospect of finding survivors is vanishingly small, as the debris field is in the frigid Potomac River.

JD Vance, a practicing Catholic, said he was “heartbroken” by a statement from Archbishop Timothy P. Broglio, the president of the USCCB's, who said enforcement of immigration enforcement actions in schools, churches, healthcare facilities, and other sensitive locations “are deeply troubling and will have negative consequences.”

Born in 1825 in central Poland and baptized Sophia, she contracted tuberculosis as a young girl. The forced period of convalescence gave her ample time for reflection. Sophia felt called to serve God by working with the poor, including street children and the elderly homeless in Warsaw’s slums. In time, her cousin joined her in the work.
