Daily Scripture Readings and Meditations: I Have Not Come to Bring Peace, but a Sword

Author Don Schwager, Servants of the Word - Matthew 10:34 - 11:1 - 34 "Do not think that I have come to bring peace on earth; I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35 For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; 36 and a man's foes will be those of his own household. 37 He who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and he who loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; 38 and he who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. ...

‘This Was a Very Different Response,’ Noem Says Regarding Texas Floods, by Olivia Pero

By Olivia Pero, The Daily Signal - Dept. of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem praised the rapid response of the FEMA and the DHS to the Texas flash floods on both NBC News and Fox News Sunday morning... Noem defended the speed at which her department deployed resources, despite claims that it took longer to send them due to her new policy requiring all FEMA contracts and grants above $100,000 be approved by her... “Within just an hour or two after the flooding, we had resources from the DHS there helping those individuals in Texas,” Noem told Kristen Welker, host of “Meet the Press.”

Saint of the Day for July 14: Saint Kateri Tekakwitha (1656 – April 17, 1680)

Her mother was a Christian Algonquin, taken captive by the Iroquois and given as wife to the chief of the Mohawk clan, the boldest and fiercest of the Five Nations. When she was four, Tekakwitha lost her parents and little brother in a smallpox epidemic that left her disfigured and half blind. ...

Msgr. Robert J. Batule: The Decline of Liberal Catholicism

Msgr. Robert J. Batule,The Catholic Thing - When I was ordained a priest in 1985, my first pastor was about to turn 50 years old; he was a member of the Ordination Class of 1962. He saw himself and others saw him too as a “Vatican II” priest. There were meetings galore, a lot of “co-ministry” with women Religious, and, in discussions, frequent references to the marginalized and minorities of various kinds. But I don’t recall that we had a single Holy Hour in the Presence of the Blessed Sacrament in my five-year assignment there, nor do I remember hearing a word against co-habitation in the parish Pre-Cana program.
