By Emily Malloy, National Catholic Register - The land is an inheritance. Since mankind first drew breath in Eden, the garden was placed into his care to cultivate and hand on to the next generation. A life on the land unsurprisingly reflects the spiritual life, as we were made for the garden. As I have written in Theology of Home IV: Arranging the Seasons, the beauty of God’s created order within the seasons informs the spiritual life. As each season comes to a close, giving way to the next, my understanding of this reality deepens.

We think that we are directing everything, but God is there, who looks into the details.”.. quoting St. Teresa of Calcutta: “May God help us not to spoil his work.”... “If we would be faithful to God … God will do great things for us. He did for the Blessed Virgin Mary, who confessed: ‘The Almighty has done great things for me and holy is his name.’ With many things God does, we think we are the clever ones who did them. We just beg God that we do that little part which he expects of us, so that his work will succeed.”

Or perhaps he will be what the badly uninformed mainstream media might label a “moderate” — neither conservative nor liberal, but a term overly simplified nevertheless — who seeks to reconcile the various factions within the Catholic Church.
