Msgr. Richard C. Antall: P.S.: They Don’t Want Us to Vote at All

By Msgr. Richard C. Antall, Crisis Magazine - I have not appreciated the “get out and vote” mantras coming from the bishops because although they insist on informed voting, that gets lost in the “I voted today” stickers. People whose last contact with theology was when they made their Communion or Confirmation should be a little more circumspect about their duty to God about their community and country. I wish less people would vote than the amadans (Irish for “fool”) who boast of their loyalty to some of the most disreputable politicians going.

A half-century of genocidal evil has warped our nation. We have much work ahead of us to undo the harm... Thus it is that the pro-life cause finds itself in a precarious political environment at the present moment... But there is a difference between recognizing a political reality and being reconciled to it. There is a difference between making a prudential compromise regarding one’s principles and throwing out those principles altogether... The Trump/Vance Campaign, and particularly the 2024 GOP Platform, have crossed those lines in spectacular fashion. They must remedy their error while there is still time.

Musk called gender-affirming care “a terrible euphemism,” instead labeling it “child mutilation and sterilization.”... “It’s evil,” he said. “You’re taking kids who are far below the age of consent.” He added, “It’s very possible for adults to manipulate children who are having an actual identity crisis into believing that they are the wrong gender.”... Musk responded: “Well, it happened to one of my older boys. I was essentially tricked into signing documents for one of my older boys, Xavier. This was really before I had any understanding of what was going on, and we had COVID going on, so there was a lot of confusion. And I was told Xavier might commit suicide.”
