Catholic World News - In 1979, the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF) issued a finding that Küng “can no longer be considered a Catholic theologian nor function as such in a teaching role.”... In September 2005, Küng had a private meeting with Pope Benedict XVI— who, in his earlier role as prefect of the CDF, had signed the 1979 Vatican censure. The Vatican described the encounter between the two former colleagues as “friendly,” but Küng would later blast Pope Benedict as “unteachable on matters of birth control and abortion.”

There is much to ponder and distinguish here... First, we should set aside certain previous translations that rendered “Do not cling to me” as “Do not touch me.”

Although it seems that few people actually make that statement, a good number live as if that were their goal... We might think there are few instances of that happening today, but it happens in politics quite often. Politicians who claim to be Christians will become “pro-choice” (pro-abortion “rights”), or embrace a position favoring same-sex “marriage” so as to get elected despite biblical principles against these things.
