We cannot simply let murderers and rapists and rapacious dictators and graft-taking politicians roam free to plunder the innocent. But it is one thing to discipline our anger at injustice in order to bring about justice, reconciliation, and peace; it’s another thing altogether to let our anger run wild so we feel “justified” excoriating and abusing those we consider “vile,” “sinful,” and “reprobate” (totally unlike us, of course).

A high-ranking Catholic priest accused gay datting app developer Grindr LLC of violating his privacy when it sold his user data, leading to his outing, allegations of misconduct, and resignation from his leadership role in the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops... The complaint, files on behalf of Jeffrey Burrill in Los Angles County Superior Court, claims three causes of action against the West Hollywood headquartered company.

He also carried on sexual relationships with several women and fathered several illegitimate children and lived in luxury while ordering other members of the congregation to live a life of prayer, poverty and mortification... Maciel survived largely through denials of wrongdoing and his ability to cultivate friends in high places in the Church during his long time as head of the Legionaries, including bishops and cardinals. He also had the confidence of St. John Paul II, who died in 2005.
