Millions of people did, the Cheers character whose name everybody did know... When George Wendt, the actor who played Norm, died recently, people of a certain generation remembered a comfortable, if not inspiring, presence. Norm had a job he didn’t like (accounting) and a wife he avoided (Vera), but he did have friends in a neighborhood pub (Cheers) in Boston where everybody did know his name.

By Anthony Esolen, The Catholic Thing - Bishop Michael Martin of Charlotte has made news with his order, if I may be permitted a metaphor, that the Vetus Ordo be celebrated only in a certain broom closet in Swannanoa. It seems also that he was about to ban some of the features of the TLM that tradition-minded people who attend the Novus Ordo favor, such as kneeling to receive the Sacrament, or facing the Risen Christ as we pray ad orientem.  After the uproar about the latter – not the former, Martin has backed away, assuring people that there will be no big changes – until at least October.

By Christopher Wells, Vatican, News - (Cardinal Seán O’Malley) was speaking on the eve of an audience with Pope Leo XIV on Thursday with members of the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors... Following that audience on Thursday morning, the Commission issued a statement noting that the audience, its first with Pope Leo,  lasted an hour and marked a significant moment of reflection, dialogue, and renewed commitment by the Church to the safeguarding of children and vulnerable persons.
