Each year as the liturgical year comes to a close, our readings are filled with themes like judgment, the end of the world, and being prepared. This weekend, it might be easy to focus on things like the sun darkening or stars falling from the sky.

By Constance T. Hull, Catholic Exchange - Daily we are engaged in a battle against self. It is an interior Garden of Gethsemane where we struggle to take the chalice of God’s will for our lives. This manifests in our sins, our relationships, and the events of our day... Will we seek God’s will or not? Will we love as He loves or not? Will we surrender or not?.. Our culture tells us to follow our hearts, but that is not the path to holiness. The path to holiness is to submit to God’s will over our own in every moment of our lives.

The Book of Wisdom (6:1-25) contains a stern warning for those of authority and influence. I present it here along with a few comments (in red) of my own.

The Editors, EWTN News - Maybe it’s too much to hope that such Catholic politicians will ever be swayed by a medicinal correction regarding their support for legal abortion. But don’t criticize the bishops if the issue of reception of Communion does overshadow the other things on the agenda at the meeting in Baltimore. The fault lies with the news media that continually misrepresent the matter — and, even more, with Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi and the other prominent Catholic politicians who continue to scandalize the faithful by their Eucharistically incoherent support for legal abortion.
