At first glance, it seems that both these things cannot be simultaneously true. He either must be more just than merciful or more merciful than just… Mercy and justice must alternate; one must win, and one must lose as they play out in our temporal world. This is not true in God’s eternity… Knowing perfectly that humans would sin, God also knew that we would need redemption.

Nnamdi Moneme, OMV, Catholic Exchange - Why is the Blessed Virgin Mary conspicuously absent in all the Gospel narratives of the Resurrection even though she is the one who is must intimately connected to the body of Jesus? He was conceived in her womb by the power of the Holy Spirit and she bore Him in her womb for nine months. She gave birth to Him in a manger, lived with Him for thirty years in Nazareth, journeyed with Him to Calvary, witnessed His brutal death and received His dead body for burial. Why isn’t she among the women and disciples who go in search for the dead body of Jesus?

No doubt many of McCarrick’s friends felt horribly betrayed when the allegations against him were made public. But if his friends were convinced of his innocence, did any speak a word in his defense? Did any of them protest, as many of Pell’s friends and supporters did on his behalf, that the evidence brought against him simply did not add up? Not even McCarrick seemed terribly convinced of his innocence. “I’m not as bad as they paint me,” McCarrick told Slate, “I do not believe that I did the things that they accused me of.”

By Brian Kranick, Catholic Exchange - Easter Sunday is not the end of our Easter celebration.  After forty days of preparation with Lent, and the Easter Triduum, from Holy Thursday to Easter Sunday, it is easy to miss looking ahead on the Church’s liturgical calendar.  This is, after all, the climax of the Christian year with the celebration of the Passion, death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ.  The Catechism calls Easter the “Feast of feasts” and the “Solemnity of solemnities.”  Yet, Easter Sunday is actually just the first day of the Easter Octave, the eight-day festal period, in which we continue to celebrate the momentous conclusion to the Paschal mystery and the economy of salvation played out in liturgical time.
