By Fr. Mark Withoos, Crisis Magazine - In celebrating the centenary of the consecration and dedication to God of the Cathedral of Saints Mary and Joseph, we are in a sense celebrating the 100th anniversary of our cathedral’s “baptism”. At our own baptism we are anointed with sacred chrism and thereby consecrated or set apart for the glory of God and to offer sacrifice to the one true living God. So, too, one hundred years ago today, the magnificent high altar of our cathedral was anointed with chrism and by this anointing was consecrated.
By Christine Niles, M.St. (Oxon.), J.D., Church Militant - Dan Burke, chief operating officer and president of EWTN News, announced his resignation Tuesday in a post on his website: In the end, my decision is based upon a combination of the deep wounds in the Church, my own mortality with respect to the years I have remaining, and my assessment of where I can have the greatest impact on healing the Church and advancing the mission Jesus has entrusted to every baptized Christian: "Go unto all the world and make disciples."
By Fr. William Saunders, Catholic Exchange - Because of this apparition, devotion to Our Lady of Hope spread. The message of our Blessed Mother is that of hope: “But pray my children. God will hear you in a short time. My Son allows Himself to be moved with compassion.” As we offer our rosary each day seeking the maternal care of our Blessed Mother, we must be mindful that she — who stood at the foot of the Cross filled with the hope of the forgiveness of sin and the resurrection to everlasting life — affords us hope also during our journey of life.
By Msgr. Charles Pope - Every now and then someone will come past my door and request parish services of some sort. Maybe it’s to plan a wedding, a baptism, or a funeral; maybe it’s for money! And then I look at him or her and say, “Who are you?”… “Oh, well Father, you don’t know me but my grandmother goes here; this is our family Church.” “Oh, I see, but where do you go to Church?”… Well, I’ve got news for you: your Mama’s faith isn’t going to save you. You gotta have your own faith.
