By Edward Pentin, National Catholic Register - Pope Francis has instituted a lay ministry of catechist along with a rite of institution in response to an “urgent need today to bring the Gospel to the contemporary world.”... Making the announcement today in an apostolic letter issued motu proprio, Antiquum ministerium, the Pope said “recognition should be given to those lay men and women who feel called by virtue of their baptism to cooperate in the work of catechesis.”

By Michael Pakaluk, The Catholic Thing - The Wall Street Journal ran a brief column last week by Charlotte attorney, Mike Kerrigan, about how his Irish Catholic mom used to advise him, about any disappointment: “Offer it up!” The Journal editors headlined the piece, “My Mom’s Christian Lesson.”  But the fact that it was published at all, and (if my experience is any basis for judging) widely shared, shows that it spoke to something universal.

By Msgr. Charles Pope - Fundamentally, the Incarnation, the Second Person of the Trinity becoming flesh, means that our faith is about things that are tangible. As human beings, we have bodies. We have a soul that is spiritual, but it is joined with a body that is physical and material. Hence it is never enough for our faith to be about only thoughts, philosophies, concepts, or historical facts. Their truth must also touch the physical part of who we are.
