By Phil Lawler, Catholic Culture - Massimo Faggioli teaches in the theology department at Villanova… Villanova is—or claims to be—a Catholic university… Those who teach in theology departments at Catholic universities are obliged to obtain the mandatum from the diocesan bishop… “The mandatum is fundamentally an acknowledgment by church authority that a Catholic professor of a theological discipline is teaching within the full communion of the Catholic Church.”.. Villanova is in the Philadelphia archdiocese, which is led by Archbishop Charles Chaput… Faggioli suggested that Archbishop Chaput is schismatic… Now isn’t this an interesting situation?
By Lisa Bourne, LifeSiteNews - Villanova University historian Massimo Faggioli has labeled three U.S. bishops “devout schismatics” who attempt to undercut the authority of Pope Francis… The “schismatic instincts” of Archbishops Charles Chaput of Philadelphia and Salvatore Cordileone of San Francisco along with Bishop Joseph Strickland of Tyler, Texas, “have been on display since the beginning of Francis' pontificate,” Faggioli said.
By Msgr. Charles Pope - I also thought today of doing a little post on the sins that cry to heaven for vengeance since I was talking to a parishioner today, who is suffering because his employer has not paid him for three weeks. The employer, a government agency says this is due to “administrative difficulties” in the bureaucracy where he works. He was angry (rightfully so) and getting desperate. I reminded him that withholding wages was a sin that cried to heaven and that God was angry with him.
By Stephanie Barclay, Public Discourse - The “Do No Harm” Act would gut the Religious Freedom Restoration Act by removing religious liberty protections that result in “harm” to others. That would be a mistake. Protection of any First Amendment rights inherently involves balancing competing harms on both sides of the ledger… This spring, members of Congress introduced a bill called the “Do No Harm Act,” which would remove statutory religious liberty protections for actions that result in “harm to others.”
