By Fr. Ed Broom, OMV, Catholic Exchange - Now we want to apply the use of our memory and understanding to understand what God is trying to say to us though this text. Rejoice in the fact that God right now has a special message He wants to communicate to you through this reading and meditation!... Be open to God; think and pray. Be bold enough to ask the Lord: “Lord God, exactly what is the message you want to communicate to my heart and life right now?” The Holy Spirit hears you and will respond!
By Michael Pakaluk, The Catholic Thing - Let’s get an easy point out of the way. It’s impossible to be showing a preferential option for the young while molesting them, or not protecting them from molesters. Shepherds like that have rather deflated the “energies” of young people and led them to close off their hearts to the Church, and to Christ. These bishops have been anti-evangelizers. By the CDF’s criterion, we also couldn’t trust what such shepherds have to say about the preferential option for the poor.
By Fr. Jerry Pokorsky, Catholic Culture - We know, by reflecting on our human condition, that we must choose good and avoid evil to attain happiness. Most of us realize, for example, that lying, cheating, and murder are immoral and ultimately bring misery. The overarching moral code of Western civilization is built, to a large extent, on the precepts of natural law. Natural law provides the context for a kind of secular moral code… Observing the reasonable and objective precepts of natural law is the path to natural goodness and happiness.
