By Trent Horn, Catholic Answers - On January 22, 1973, the U.S. Supreme Court handed down a 7-2 decision that struck down all state laws banning abortion. As we approach the anniversary of Roe v. Wade and all the media stories that accompany it, let’s look at five myths that defenders of legal abortion routinely peddle in order to legitimize this terrible decision.
By Rachel Del Guidice, The Stream - Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Wash. said she chose life for her child even though doctors said she should have an abortion, and is encouraging society to take a chance for life… “We were told that our unborn baby had zero percent chance of survival, zero… our baby would either miscarry, or she would be born unable to breathe because her lungs did not develop, she would literally suffocate upon arrival.”
By Michael Davis, Catholic Herald - And it only keeps growing. On Friday, hundreds of thousands turned out for the largest annual pro-life demonstration in the world. The Church, of course, was at the heart of it: over 10,000 – including hundreds of priests, dozens of bishops and four cardinals – attended a vigil Mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.
By Associated Press (Catholic Herald) - Pope Francis’s top adviser on clerical sex abuse has implicitly rebuked the Pontiff over his accusations of slander against Chilean abuse victims, saying that his words were “a source of great pain for survivors of sexual abuse”... Cardinal Seán O’Malley, the Archbishop of Boston, said he couldn’t explain why Francis “chose the particular words he used” and that such expressions had the effect of abandoning victims and relegating them to “discredited exile.”
