Through greed we obsess about obtaining worldly things. Through anger we lash out at those who keep us from our sensuous and worldly goals. Through envy we are saddened by the thought that others may have more things or more fun than we do. Through pride we most directly and deliberately shift our goal from serving God to serving ourselves, doing everything our way.

Leithart, First Things - Dante’s Commedia draws on the tradition of the seven virtues, four “natural” (justice, prudence, temperance, fortitude) and three “theological” (faith, hope, love). This distinction provides the structure of Paradiso, in which Dante ascends through spheres of defective virtue and the four spheres of the natural virtues into the sphere of the fixed stars, where Peter, James, and John catechize him in the theological virtues. Exceptional pagans can achieve natural virtue, but, with very few exceptions, the habits of faith, hope, and love are beyond their capacity.

CNA: Prosecutor Calls for Arrest of Vatican Bishop Charged With Abusing Argentine Seminarians

Catholic News Agency - A criminal prosecutor in Argentina has requested the arrest of Bishop Gustavo Zanchetta, who is accused of sexually abusing two seminarians. Zanchetta is suspended from a position at the Vatican’s central bank, where he was appointed an “assessor” by Pope Francis in 2017… Zanchetta is accused of sexually abusing two seminarians, and was criminally charged in June… The bishop lives in the Vatican City State, at the Domus Santa Marta, the same hotel at which Pope Francis resides… A prosecutor of sexual crimes in Orán, María Soledad Filtrín Cuezzo, has requested international assistance in Zanchetta’s arrest…

San Francisco and Washington, D.C. Top Census Bureau Table for Percent of Same-Sex-Couple Households

By CNSNews.com Staff - San Francisco, Calif., and Washington, D.C., ranked No. 1 and No. 2 on a newly published Census Bureau table that lists eighteen U.S. “selected cities” by the percentage of households living there in 2017 that were headed by same-sex couples… “The Census Bureau collects data on same-sex couple households by asking how each person in the household is related to the householder (who owns or rents the home),” says the bureau. “Households are identified as same-sex couple households if a spouse or unmarried partner is the same sex as the householder.”... Nationwide, only 0.8 percent of American households in 2017 were determined by the Census Bureau to be “same-sex households.”
