Msgr. Charles Pope: Reimagining the Beatitudes

By Msgr. Charles Pope - Beatitude is not wealth, fame, honor, power, pleasure, or physical attractiveness. These are external and passing things that can easily be lost. They can also be arbitrary and rooted as much in luck as in virtue… Happiness is “an inside job.” According to the Beatitudes, one is blessed even if poor, mourning, and persecuted. Even more, such a one is confirmed in his blessedness by such realities, because they are reminders that this world is not our home; its trinkets are passing and its “happiness” unstable.

Fr. Shenan J. Boquet: The Contraception-Abortion Connection

Fr. Shenan J. Boquet, Human Life International - HLI’s founder, Fr. Paul Marx, OSB, ardently believed that, looked at one way, abortion is merely one symptom of a much deeper cultural and spiritual disease. Without addressing this deeper problem, he worried, we may well save many individual lives, but make precious little progress in turning the culture away from child-killing… For his part, Fr. Marx believed that the root cause of abortion, and many of the evils of the Culture of Death, is the “contraceptive mentality.” As he said: “While we need a variety of pro-life groups hacking away at the anti-life monster, it is enormously futile and indeed grossly short-sighted to overlook the chief source of baby-killing, which is contraception.”

CNA: Thousands of Irish Pro-Lifers Rally in Dublin, Say Abortion Law Must Go

By Catholic News Agency - An estimated 10,000 Irish pro-life advocates attended the first major pro-life rally and march in Ireland since the country implemented permissive abortion legislation, with speakers emphasizing their determination to continue working to restore legal protections for unborn children… “The theme of the Rally was a call to ‘Stand For Life,’ because no vote, no piece of legislation, no referendum can ever make abortion right,” the rally organizing committee said July 6. “We were delighted to see people of all ages and all walks of life respond to that call.”

By Martina Moyski, Church Militant - A highly organized — and well-funded — Jesuit agency is mentoring and escorting thousands of Central American migrants to the doorstep of the United States… The Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS), founded by Fr. Pedro Arrupe, S.J. in 1980 and officially registered as a foundation in the Vatican in 2000, records activities in over 50 countries. JRC self-describes its mission as seeking "to accompany, serve, and advocate the cause of refugees and other forcibly displaced people, that they may heal, learn, and determine their own future."… An especially well-traveled path for JRS extends from Central America, through Mexico, to the U.S. border.
